ZIRCONIA CRUCIBLES

Refractory grade zirconia crucibles are made of calcium-stabilised or yttria-stabilised zirconia.

Zirconia crucibles (ZrO2) withstand temperatures up to 2400 deg. C, they are chemically very inert, highly resistant thermal shock, non-conductive and corrosion resistant to acids and alkalies when compared with porcelain crucibles. Zirconia crucibles are ideal for melting of precious metals and super-alloys, and they will not react with molten aluminium, iron, nickel, platinum, silicate and acid slag - to name a few. They may be used to make crucibles for smelting of precious and other metals, heat resistant enamel, refractory pipe, glass, induction melting crucibles for specialist steel, smelting and refining.

"Yttrium oxide, also known as yttria, is Y2O3. It is an air-stable, white solid substance." - Wikipedia
"Yttria-stabilised zirconia (YSZ) is a ceramic in which the crystal structure of zirconium dioxide is made stable at room temperature by an addition of yttrium oxide." - Wikipedia

"A few percent of the oxides of calcium or yttrium stabilise the cubic crystal phase." - Wikipedia
